OECD Stresses Value of Education, Including Vocational Programs
This article is published in here, and reports some findings according to “Education at a Glance 2013: OECD Indicators” report. Highlights of the article are:
- Unemployment rates are nearly three times as high for people without a high-school diploma as for those with a college degree.
- The countries with a higher-than-average proportion of vocational-education graduates, such as Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, were able to keep their increase in youth unemployement below eight percetage points. In sharp contrast, countries with a lower-than-average proportion of vocational graduates, such as Greece, Ireland, and Spain, saw increaseing in youth unemployment of 12 percentrage points or more.
- Unemployment rates for graduates of computer and IT programs were higher than for graduates of secondary-school teaching programs
- Australia, Britain, Russia, South Korea, and Spain have increased their share in hosting international students
- The United States still plays host to more international students by 17% share of the foreign-student market, but the figure is falling quickly
